Wow that was one wild ride.

Congratulations are in due for our author for coming to what can be considered a milestone in his series. At the end of book ten I can honestly say that this is one of the better long term series I have been reading. This book is in many ways a watershed for the series that allows for many of the background questions and plots to come into the light and become part of the story. This books allows for the culmination of our story so far before we plunge back. I expect that the next book will skip some of the timeline and start another arc of the Spellmonger.

This book is as expected much more Minanlan-centric and advances the plot like a galloping horse. The size and scope of this single book was amazing and any reader who complains about length or wait time is out of their mind. In many ways after this series I can see why Terry felt the need to have the two novels of side characters before this book. In Necromancer there is much that can be inferred happening behind the scenes only because the two books before allowed the readers to understand some of the characters that only appear infrequently in this novel.

There is so much of scope and breadth towards this book that its hard to write a simple review because in many ways this is 4 or 5 complete stories in one book. I am so glad that Terry has been able to find a way to bring this entire project for the world and hope that all of his dreams come true becuase this book will be one of my favorites for years to come.

Necromancer Book Ten Of The Spellmonger Series edition by Terry Mancour Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This monster of a book at over 1100 pages is the culmination of the first ten books of the story of Minalan the Spellmonger. I have been following his career from the first book published several years ago and while there were some books I have enjoyed over others in the series, the consistency and continuity has been very fulfilling. Mr. Mancour uses this last book to expand the story in some very interesting directions as well as proposing some fairly radical ideas.

For those who have been reading this series, this book contains the same mix of statecraft, action, magic, war and epic deeds; everyone shines to an extent. The section focusing on the raid of the Necromancer’s lair is particularly well done.

The series is well supported, with maps of the setting on Facebook and an enthusiastic fan base.
For those who have not come across this series previously, this is not the best book to read as the first one. It is the culmination of a long running series with multiple volumes as well as several novellas and even short stories, all of which contribute to the overall story. My recommendation would be to rather begin with the first book, Spellmonger and see if it is to your taste.

In his blog, Mr. Mancour states that he does need a rest as well as to concentrate on other projects at this moment although he is already planning the next in the Spellmonger series, tentatively entitled Thaumaturge; having said that, he is a long way from announcing a publishing date.
This is my favorite book in the series since Magelord, a lot of progress with Minalan both personally (new friends, alliances, and other important bits) and in advancing the cause of civilization.

Lots of action, epic fights, and finally explaining some of the biggest questions of the series.

Definitely an incredibly long book though, but if you have read this far you owe it to yourself to read this. I did not feel like it dragged out at all, there was just a ton of important things to cover.
- relatable characters? Check
- romance? Check
- bloody war? Check
- incredible world building? Check
- amazing dialogue? Check
- twist turns and surprises? Check
- insanely overpowered main protagonist that just shirks off all threats? ... nope

This really reminds me of Terry Goodkinds Sword of Truth series in pacing. At the beginning before *spoilers* it gets boring, long and drawn out with an anticlimactic ending. Mix that with amazing characters that are of Sanderson's usual excellent point of view frame and worth. The world building... its hard to describe at this point. It starts so subtle and quickly you find it hard to explain inside an hour without retelling the entire book. Like Patrick Rothfuss... back when he was an author (not salty at all waiting on that series...).
My hats off to Terry Mancour. The leaps and bounds he grows as an author in each book is astounding. He started as a diamond in the rough and as of this book... he is easily worth a mountain of snowstone.
What are you still doing here? Go read the first book!?!
Terry delivers again on this book. I can honestly say Spellmonger has become my absolute favorite book series over the years since I discovered it. While there may be many other series with epic struggles and crazy bad guys Terry does it all. The world building in this series is absolutely incredible and beats any other series I have seen hands down.

This book brings us back to the main story line that has been overlapping for the last few books. While those overlapping novels have been fun and amusing in their own way this book makes massive plot jumps. There is more historical revelation in this book alone than in the entire series so far and it broadens the pure scope of the threat and delicate balance of the story.

The thought of there still being 20 more planned novels in this main story line, not to mention some of the fantastic short stories that accompany it, makes me giddy and excited. Quite honestly the best part is that Terry is good at responding to fans and keeps rather regular updates posted on his writing compared to most authors.

Terry I can assure you I will be a lifelong fan of this series and can't wait for more.
